Phoenix Tattoo 1
January 4, 2008

Got this from a blog, no credit was given. It is always irritating when there’s no credit. But the artwork is too good to not be shared *argh*.

The phoenix is a mythical bird that dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes. In China, the phoenix is called feng huang. It is the second most-respected legendary creature (after the dragon). The phoenix is the emperor of birds. In Japan, the phoenix is called fushich? (Immortal Bird).

Amazing! The only thing I know about phoenix is what I learned from Harry Potter series. As you said “it dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes”. Two more from the movie. It can carry a lot of weight and its tears have healing power (2nd movie :)) Is it the same as in the legend or did JK Rowling make it up? What do you think?

i wonder how long this one took. a dragon backpiece by Andy Shou [a (rather famous) Taiwanese tattoo artist] took 100 hours to complete :o!
i’ve personally not read about the phoenix (historically/legendary-wise) being able to bear a lot of weight + having tears with healing powers.
the first time i knew about “the legendary phoenix” — jean grey as the dark phoenix in the x-men series
